Month 3

3 Months on Testosterone

A diary about the physical changes an FTM experienced during his first 3 months of testosterone HRT

April 1, 2005 : 3 Months on Testosterone

The first 3 months on the hormones flew by quicker than I thought they would. The initial weeks felt the longest because I knew a great change was upon me. My attention has diverted to the muscle growth, particularly in my biceps. Where there was once a high fat percentage has now become almost pure muscle. There remains a bit of fat where my arm meets my armpit, but it seems to be dwindling away week by week. I have noticed a change in my ability to lift heavy objects; in fact, my entire body feels like it can handle more stress–as if I have greater endurance.

Before starting hormones I was unhappy with my body. I was recovering from mononucleosis and the co-existing conditions. That was 2 years of feeling unhealthy and out of shape. Now my hips have slimmed down and my pants hang differently. My muscles are growing and I am losing the female fat that bloated my figure.

Hair is starting to come in just around my belly button. A light happy trail is forming but it is not very dark. The hair that was confined strictly to my pubic area seems to be growing a bit onto the leg. The hair that was starting around my ankles last month has continued to become darker and longer. It is also filling in up my calf.
I have taken good care of the acne that was starting in on my upper arm. It is still there but is nothing like it was. Actually, it just needed to be ex-foliated and moisturized more often. My face is a bit rougher and harder to control, but overall hasn’t been too difficult. I have noticed a change in my skin. It seems to need to be moisturized more often– but I think this may have to do with my need for water.
For some odd reason I am now easily dehydrated. I’ve noticed that I need to wake up at night for a glass of water, and above all, have needed to drink it all day long. I also have to use conditioner on my hair, whereas before that wasn’t necessary.
